You don’t need to prepare your home for a feng shui premise audit. Please don’t tidy, rearrange or fix anything beforehand, because the audit works on the property as it really is today. What helps is information: a floor plan, the year the property was built, the date you moved in, the birth dates of the people living there, and what you want to change. This article covers residential premises.

Leave the space exactly as it is

Many people want to clear clutter or move furniture before I arrive, so the place looks its best. I ask them not to. Assessing the current situation is the most important part of the work. If the home has been prepared for the visit, I’m looking at a version of it that you don’t live in.

What to send, and why

Each item feeds a different part of the assessment.

The floor plan shows me the layout. The size of the property and the complexity of the job determine how large the piece of work is, and that is what the fee is based on. If you don’t have one, we can still work around it, but the accuracy of the feng shui is affected. A floor plan is always the better choice.

The year the property was built tells me which Qi you moved into and what environmental factors the home started with.

The date you moved into the house shows how the property relates to your career, your business and your wealth.

The birth dates of the residents are an important reference for whether the house is compatible with the people living in it.

Your goals and problems are what I build the strategy around. Two households in identical houses can need very different advice, because they want different things from the space.

Key principle

The best preparation is to change nothing and to bring accurate information. The audit works on the home as it is.

Who needs to be there, and how long it takes

The person who hires us is the one who should be present on the day. The visit takes around two to three hours.

If you’re overseas or far away

A remote audit uses photos, a video walkthrough of the property, the floor plan and a video call. The same information is needed. See Does Feng Shui Work Remotely? for how remote consultations work.

When to book

For a home you already live in, any time is fine. For a new house, book before any renovation starts, so the advice can shape the work instead of undoing it.

The same applies if you are still choosing between properties. One family I worked with lived in an older house that belonged to the husband’s parents, and decided to move for their children’s education. We compared several semi-detached houses against their birth data and their goals, and they chose the one that was highly compatible. In the first year the husband’s business did well and the couple found they were arguing less. That is one family’s experience, not a promise, and results always depend on the household and on how the advice is followed.

What a Feng Shui Office Audit Involves describes the equivalent process for commercial premises.

What happens after the audit

The results depend on how much of the advice is put into practice, and how quickly. I have given some clients ten recommendations and seen them carry out three, because of their own views or preferences. The result is discounted accordingly. I’ll give you the full protocol, and how much of it you follow is your decision.
